Just a reminder that chapters 7-9 need to be read by the end of June. Mike and I will be sending an e-mail with the steps to respond in the blog. We're looking forward to reading your comments!
The process of setting up Math Worshop in my classroom will be very similar to the Reading and Writing Workshops I already use. It is critical to establish at the beginning of the year the routines and expectations for students to follow. This will allow me time to confer with students individually. Noting the students successes and struggles during the guided practice time will allow me the knowledge of who needs extra help and who needs extentions of activities. If I have a routine established already that my students know what to do when they are done with assigned tasks, then that will allow me to confer with students without getting interupted by students needing help or asking what to do next.
Assessments for this type of math structure in my room will be perfect for our new Report Card Standards Based Assessments. I will take the Standards and use the rubric provided to me from the district to determine the student's level of achievement.
The model that we have studied and witnessed by going to another campus will help me in setting up my stations/rotations/and procedures to allow me to implement this workshop model in my classroom this upcoming school year.
Guided Math....Here we come!!!
